I have several things to talk about today, first of which, announcing the contest winners! My next contest will probably run around the spring equinox, since I’m a fan of seasonal celebrations.

Second thing to talk about: Hogglepot, the weekly fantasy journal is now live! The first story, “Awakening” by Emily McIntyre, will be up until the end of the week, so get on over there and read it! Also, spread the word about Hogglepot and link to us through your blog, or tweet about us to your followers! You can find Hogglepot on Facebook and Twitter. The journal is a non-profit publication, meaning, after expenses are paid, all proceeds will go toward Reading is Fundamental, a literacy charity devoted to creating “a literate America in which all children have access to books and discover the joys and value of reading.” As of right now, there aren’t any things to buy, but come April-ish, e-books of our quarterly publications will go up for sale, and come next year, bound copies of the year’s publications will go up for sale. Let’s spread the word about Hogglepot and this time next year, maybe we’ll have a hefty donation toward RIF. In addition to spreading the word, if you write fantasy, don't be afraid to submit your short stories! We still need a bucketload of submissions, and we respond to submissions with positive and helpful feedback should they not be quite ready for publication.
Third thing: guest blogging. If you would like to write a post for brookenomicon, send me an email with your post idea, and should you wish for me to write a post for your blog, I’d be happy to do that too!
Fourth thing of which a topic may be formulated: I am no longer sick. Starting tomorrow, I’ll dive back into the usual post ball-pit of helpful topics. As always, if you have a topic you want me to cover, let me know either in the comments or by email. My aim is to publish a novel, yes, but I also want to help you achieve the same dream. We’re in this together after all.

ReplyDeleteThis is SO timely it's incredible. Perhaps "serendipitous" is a better word. A writing colleague and I have both written (or begun), for reasons beyond our understanding, children's books over the holidays.
Just last night we were skyping back and forth about what to do with them, where they fit, agreeing to cross edit as best we could, laughing about how similar they were (both animal-based, though very different animals).
I started scrounging around for Web resources on ages, focus, vocabulary/age guidelines--all new to both of us--and within an hour I received a notice from your web log.
When I saw the prize, "How to Write for Children and Get Published", I was (as they say here) gobsmacked.
Amazing! Thank you, thank you...from a little pony and a harvest mouse, too.
